Abak Local Government Holds Anniversary Thanksgiving Service
Activities marking the 55th Independence Celebration in Abak local government area began on Sunday, 27th September, 2015 with an Inter-denominational Thanksgiving Service at Our Lady of Mercy Chaplaincy, Mercy Hospital, Abak.
The activities will be rounded off on Thursday, 1st October, 2015 with march-pass by school children, uniform organizations and cultural displays at Abak Township Stadium.
In his homely, Rev. Father Primus Umoh harped on the need for people to always appreciate and encourage what is good from others.
Rev. Father Umoh advised leaders at all levels to always fear God and do what is good.
The Minister of God thanked the Chairman Transition Committee for Abak, Dr. Emmanuel Udosen for choosing the Church for the Anniversary Thanksgiving Service and congratulated him and Members of the Transition Committee on their appointment.
He equally appreciated the State Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo for also worshipping in the Church and congratulated the government and people of Akwa Ibom State on the 28th anniversary of the State creation.
Rev. Father Umoh assured the state and local government under the leadership of Deacon Udom Emmanuel and Dr. Emmanuel Udosen of the loyalty, positive contributions and prayers of the Church.
The man of God drew the attention of the congregation to challenges facing the Chaplaincy which according to him, included building of a befitting place of worship and solicited the support of all.
In his speech, the Transition Committee Chairman for Abak, Dr. Emmanuel Udosen stated that the people of Abak have every reason to celebrate because of what the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel has done for the people of Abak.
Dr. Udosen congratulated the State Governor on the numerous achievements he has recorded in the state within his first 100 days in office, stressing that the coming of AIT/Ray Power Station the Greenwell Technologies Fertilizer Industry at Abak when operational, would create job opportunities to the people of the area.
The Transition Committee Chairman who led other Transition Committee Members and senior citizens of Abak to the Thanksgiving Service, thanked God for the opportunity giving him to serve the people of Abak as the Transition Committee.
He equally thanked the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and his Deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo for finding him worthy for the position of the Chairman of the Transition Committee and promised not to disappoint the people.
Dr. Udosen thanked the Church for the support given to Deacon Udom Emmanuel and Mr. Moses Ekpo during the April 11, 2015 gubernational election and solicited for their continuous prayers.
The Transition Committee Chairman used the occasion to commend the immediate past Governor of the State, Chief Godswill Akpabio for the solid foundation he laid and for making Akwa Ibom State what it is today.
He donated in support of the building project of the Church.
Also speaking, the State Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo thanked the Church for granting the local government council the opportunity to organize the Thanksgiving Service in Church.
Mr. Ekpo promised to revisit the Church again and to also contribute his quota to the Church building project.
Highpoint of the Thanksgiving Service was offering of prayers for the federal, state and local governments, the leaders, the Christendom and those that are oppressed.
The Church Choir thrilled the congregation with beautiful rendition while the Deputy Governor, Transition Committee Chairman and others danced to the glory of God.
Some of the dignitaries who attended the Thanksgiving Service included Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, the Provost Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Dr. Patrick Uko, Brig. Gen. Godwin Afangideh (rtd), Major Samuel Eyo (rtd), Sir Gabriel Etim, Lady Vero Usoro, Mr. Eseme Essien, Mr. Ignatius Ukpe, Barr. Victor Nkanang, Hon. Nseyen Anaka, Chief Okon Udo, Elder Ikemesit Ayara among others.
